About the WVU Impact Awards

The WVU Impact Awards is a system-wide recognition program designed to honor the extraordinary contributions made by our dedicated faculty and staff.

As part of the University’s commitment to recognizing our employees, the WVU Impact Awards program shines a spotlight on employees across the WVU System whose commitment to excellence has made a lasting impact on the University.

Each year, leaders across the University recognize employees or groups of employees with medallions to symbolize the recipients’ outstanding contributions to our University and our state.

In November and December each year, a committee chooses 7-10 of the most outstanding WVU Impact Award recipients to receive the Outstanding Mountaineer Award, an end-of-year award that recognizes a group of the past year’s WVU Impact Award recipients who have especially gone above and beyond.

The Outstanding Mountaineer Award recipients are announced at an end-of-year gathering, where we honor all WVU Impact Award recipients annually.

This program provides a chance for our University to recognize the incredible work being done across our campus every day. Whether in the classroom, behind the scenes, or in support of our campus community, your efforts as a WVU employee make a true difference, and we want to celebrate all that our employees do.

Program Details

  • Each year, senior leaders across the University will recognize employees throughout the year.
  • Award recipients will receive a wooden medallion to be displayed.
  • Leaders will identify the reason for issuing the award to each employee/group and will record their message on a card that will be provided with the medallion.
  • Award recipients should register their award using the Qualtrics form provided on their card. This information will be used to invite all recipients to the end-of-year event and will allow them to be considered for the Outstanding Mountaineer Award. For this reason, it is important that recipients submit their award information exactly as it appears on their card.
  • Recipients may also elect to have their information displayed on the WVU Impact Awards registry.
  • Additional information on the end-of-year event will be provided via email to award recipients near the end of the year.
  • Award recipients must register their award by Nov. 1 to be considered for an Outstanding Mountaineer Award and receive their invitiation to the end-of-year event. Those who register an award after Nov. 1 may not be eligible for Outstanding Mountaineer Award consideration.
  • Upon receipt of a WVU Impact Award, employees will not be eligible to receive another medallion for two full program cycles. For example, if an employee received a WVU Impact Award in 2025, they will not be eligible again until 2028.
