Reduce Appointment Length
Interested in working fewer months out of the year? Consider expressing interest in reducing your appointment length while still remaining an active member of the WVU family.
Eligibility
The program is open to staff (both benefits-eligible and non-benefits-eligible) and faculty employed by WVU or WVU Research Corp. as of April 1, 2023.
Note: The Work-Time Reduction Program is not open to WVU State employees who participate in the State Teachers Retirement System.
Examples of Reduced Appointment Length
If you are a nine-or-12-month employee, you could opt to take one or multiple months off during the year (e.g., summer or winter) based on your work demands and the operational needs of your college, department or unit.
Impact to Pay and Benefits
If you reduce your appointment length, you would not work or get paid for the time that you are “off-contract."
Because you will be in an unpaid status during this time, you will see a direct impact to some of your benefits including leave accruals, holiday leave, retirement contributions and longevity accrual. For more information, view the benefit impacts of position changes.
