2025 Performance Review Process Information:

In support of West Virginia University’s ongoing commitment to employee development, the 2025 performance review process will launch on Monday, March 2, 2026, for classified and non-classified staff and certain FE/AP employees.

Aligned to WVU’s core values, the annual performance review process is designed to measure an employee’s capabilities, accomplishments, development, and overall contributions to the University as well as the critical role each employee plays in bringing our land-grant mission to life.

To continue to focus on providing thorough, accurate performance reviews and ratings, Talent and Culture’s Strategic HR Partners (SHRPs) will provide additional assistance to leadership teams across the University to ensure a successful performance review cycle.

Below are important points of the process:

  • The 2025 performance review period will cover Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2025.
  • Employees hired prior to July 1, 2025, will be eligible for a performance review.
  • On March 2, 2026, eligible employees will receive an email to their WVU email account announcing that it is time to begin the pre-review process. This email will contain a link to the pre-review in the electronic system.
  • The employee pre-review is optional but strongly encouraged. Pre-reviews provide employees with the opportunity to more actively engage in the performance review process by reflecting on their accomplishments, providing their supervisor with thoughts on their work over the past year, and identifying opportunities for growth.
  • Employees can complete their pre-review until March 16, 2026. The pre-review will then be electronically submitted to their supervisor.
  • On March 18, 2026, supervisors will receive an email to their WVU email account with a link to complete employee reviews in the electronic system. We encourage first- and second-level leaders to collaborate to ensure rating accuracy and consistency.

Below is the timeline of the overall process for the 2025 review period:

  • January to March 2026 – SHRPs conduct training and prepare leaders on performance review cycle and ratings
  • March 2, 2026 – Employee pre-reviews open.
  • March 16, 2026 – Employee pre-reviews close.
  • March 18, 2026 – The review tool will open to all supervisors to submit reviews.
  • April 7, 2026 – The review tool will close to all supervisors. All reviews must be completed by this date.
  • April 13, 2026 – Analytic reports are provided to vice president/AVP/dean levels and SHRPs for review, approval, and/or modifications.
  • April 24, 2026 – Vice presidents/AVP/deans complete their review process and authorize the final ratings.
  • April 29 to May 13, 2026 – Supervisors may conduct employee review meetings. Employees will be given 10 business days to review their performance review and provide comments. The 10 business-day comment period will begin either after the employee has received the email with the link to the comments page or has accessed the comment page on their performance review dashboard.
  • All reviews are considered final 15 business days after the employee has received the performance review from their supervisor.

All newly hired (after July 1, 2025) classified and non-classified staff who are still in their probationary period should use the current form and process. Contact EmployeeRelations@mail.wvu.edu for the appropriate review forms.
