May 2025: Mental Health Awareness Month

In observance of Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to emphasize the importance of mental health and well-being, both in and out of the workplace, and take this opportunity to remind you of the various programs, resources and benefits available to you.

  • Reach out and talk to someone. The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) is a free service available to you and your dependents. FSAP provides a confidential and safe environment to discuss issues and receive resource recommendations.
  • Learn and practice mindfulness. Through a partnership with WVU Medicine, WVU faculty and staff are welcome to participate in WVU Medicine’s Mindfulness Summer Series. This series offers an opportunity to pause, breathe and reconnect with what matters most.
  • Read and connect with your colleagues. All employees are invited to join the FSAP Support Squad’s Book Club. Read and engage in thoughtful discussions on self-help and personal growth. This is a weekly book club meeting on Thursdays at 4 p.m. via Zoom. The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins is the next book of discussion beginning June 5 through July 24. Register online.
  • Make the most of your time off. Summer is a common time to step away from work to recharge, refresh and maintain a healthy work-life balance. WVU proudly offers a comprehensive leave program for leave-eligible employees. We encourage you to check your leave balance in Applaud and coordinate with your supervisor when scheduling leave. As a reminder, any unused floating holiday hours will expire on June 30.

June 2025: Direct Pay Benefits

Even though Open Enrollment has ended, WVU faculty and staff can still elect a range of optional benefits at any time. These direct pay options (not payroll-deducted) offer added support for your well-being, financial security and peace of mind, enhancing flexibility beyond your core benefits.

  • Pet Insurance – Protect yourself and your pets when the unexpected occurs with My Pet Protection from Nationwide.
  • Identity Protection – Monitor and protect your personal information through Allstate Identity Protection with tools that detect fraud, alert you to suspicious activity, and provide support restoring your identity if needed.
  • Auto, Home and Renters Insurance – Access competitive rates and group discounts on coverage for your car and home through various leading national carriers.
  • Long-Term Care Resources (LTCR) – Unexpected, high-cost medical care and expenses can be a challenge – both now and in the future. LTCR monitors benefits and rate information from more than 25 top long-term care insurers in the U.S., helping you find the best coverage to fit your needs and budget.
  • Perks Program – At no cost to you, a Perks membership gives you access to thousands of employee discounts, local and national deals and WVU employee exclusives through WVU’s partnership with Perks. One valuable component of the Perks program is ‘Insurance & Benefits’ which includes access to additional direct pay benefits
